Sundance Ski Resort – Paradise tucked away in the hills

Nestled on a protected property at the base of the magnificent Mount Timpanogos, just north of Provo in Utah, Sundance is a ski resort owned by actor/director Robert Redford and is only an hour’s drive from the world’s largest independent film festival, Sundance Film Festival.

In spite of its celebrity connection and close proximity to a world-renowned festival, if you don’t know much about Sundance Resort, I don’t blame you. This place is like a hidden jewel, so to speak. Yes, I said ‘Jewel’ because I think Sundance Resort is one of the best ski resorts in the United States (if not in the world!) Magnificent lodging, pristine slopes and breathtaking alpine backdrop are all factors that will back my claim up.

So, if you are planning on traveling to Sundance Resort, walk through this brief travel guide to know a little about this wonderland.

What to Do

Although the understated Sundance Resort is not touted as offering incredible off-mountain activities, it sure does offer some pretty cool activities throughout the year. From snowshoeing trails, cross-country skiing, horseback riding, mountain biking, and hiking, there is always something to do at Sundance regardless of the season.

There is something for art aficionados like me as well. The Sundance Art Shack Studios, for example, offers daily workshops in pottery, painting, jewelry making, drawing, printmaking or photography. Apart from the daily art workshops, theatrical, literary and musical events are held throughout the year.

Sundance is one of those few places where you actually want to do and explore everything, because just the ambiance of this place is so… magical, for the lack of a better word.

RentSkis.com is North America’s largest ski & snowboard rental provider with over 100 shops located across Colorado, British Columbia, California and Utah. All rental locations are either slopeside or conveniently located in the resort. In most regions we also offer free rental delivery to your hotel room/condo. All of our rentals come with something extra: our experts. It's not just about some boots and a board - it's about getting you and your family into the right equipment so that you have the best possible experience.

Where to Eat

Yes, Sundance Resort is hauntingly beautiful but do you know what else is hauntingly good about this place? The food!

Sundance offers some of the best dining experiences in the continental United States, in my humble opinion. The resort has two elegant restaurants, plus a deli and a bar that features live music. It also boasts two gorgeous mountaintop venues. You can sit by the fire and listen to a band play in the Owl Bar where Butch Cassidy's Hole-in-the-wall Gang visited.

If you want something a tad more romantic, The Tree Room is the ultimate fine mountain cuisine dining experience with its Four-Diamond and the Wine Spectator award. A candlelit dinner with your partner there would be a memory you won’t ever forget…

Where to Stay

You can relax and stay at the resort lodges for a true mountain retreat. The lodging ranges from guest cottage rooms to quaint mountain abodes, all very wonderfully appointed in the rustic, elegant décor – just the way I like it. It feels like a charming English village from the 1600s, and it has Wi-Fi! That’s a win-win.

Understated, calm and pristine, Sundance might not be one of Utah's most popular resorts, but it is undoubtedly the one that offers the best experience. The next time you’re in Utah, don’t miss Sundance Resort – I’m pretty sure you’ll love it!
